COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION
ADHESIVE, RUBBER, FOR PAPER BONDING
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this
Commercial Item Description by all Federal Agencies.
1. SCOPE. This commercial item description covers rubber-based adhesives used for bonding papers, maps, drawings, and charts.
2. CLASSIFICATION.
2.1 Type I- Solvent based
Type II- Water based emulsion
2.2 Class 1- Permanent
Class 2- Repositionable
2.3 Form A- Bulk liquids
Form B- Aerosol
3. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 Appearance- The adhesive shall be transparent or translucent. The adhesive shall be clear when dried although it may be colorless or lightly colored when in wet state. The adhesive shall not cause permanent warping, discoloration, or staining in the paper.
3.2 Workmanship- The adhesive shall be smooth and uniform in consistency and free from dirt, lumps, and coarse particles. The adhesive shall also be free from all defects that will affect performance and serviceability or present hazard to the user.
3.3 Class 1, Permanent bonding- Products shall be able to produce bonds with standard bond typing paper strong enough to cause fibers to be embedded in the glue line when pulled apart after drying.
